We are often asked about the difference between the Eagle 44 and the Eagle 46. Both yachts share our signature classic lines combined with modern technology, and focus on single handed sailing. Yet they are designed for slightly different purposes.
If you are comparing our 44 ft sail yacht with our 46 ft sail yacht, this guide will help you understand which model best suits your sailing ambitions.
Eagle 44 – The ultimate daysailer
The Eagle 44 is widely known as the ultimate daysailer. This 44 ft sailing yacht is designed for stylish day trips, relaxed evening sails, and effortless performance.
One of the defining features of the Eagle 44 is the cockpit, which is positioned in the middle of the yacht. By placing the cockpit midship, the space becomes exceptionally generous and comfortable.
The cockpit includes a fixed mahogany table with an integrated sink and bar-box. This means a refreshing cold drink is always within reach, perfect for long summer afternoons on the water.
Comfortable interior for day sailing
Although the Eagle 44 is designed as a luxury daysailer, she is equipped with a practical and elegant interior. Inside you will find a toilet, two settees and a double V-berth in the bow. Everything you need for a comfortable day on the water is on board. This picnic boat offers simplicity, elegance, and comfort, exactly what you can expect from a premium 44 ft daysailer.
Eagle 46 – Daysailing and more
Like the Eagle 44, the Eagle 46 features a spacious cockpit. However, instead of a fixed table, she has a removable cockpit table, allowing for more flexibility in layout and use. The Eagle 46 is suitable for daysailing and more, the reason lies primarily in her significantly more spacious interior.
The Eagle 46 offers a more spacious interior primarily due to its higher freeboard, which allows for full standing headroom below deck. This increased freeboard not only enhances interior comfort, but also contributes to improved seaworthiness. In terms of interior volume, offshore capability, and wider side decks, the Eagle 46 closely aligns with the larger Eagle 54.
Extended comfort below deck
The 46 ft sailyacht offers full standing headroom and a layout that makes longer stays on board extremely comfortable. The interior includes a fully equipped galley with stove, sink, and refrigerator. An enclosed bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. The interior also features two long settees of approximately two meters, a double V-berth in the bow and a bunk bed in the aft off the cabin.. Allowing up to five people to sleep on board.
This makes the Eagle 46 not only perfect for day sailing, but also highly suitable for weekend trips or extended cruising. If you are looking for a 46 ft sailing yacht that combines performance with real cruising comfort, the Eagle 46 delivers.
The key difference between the Eagle 44 and Eagle 46
The biggest difference between the two yachts lies in their intended use. The Eagle 44 is the ultimate 44 ft daysailer, ideal for elegant day trips and beautiful evening sails. The Eagle 46, on the other hand, offers that same day sailing experience but adds the comfort and space required for longer stays on board, such as a weekend getaway. Both yachts maintain the distinctive Leonardo Yachts identity, but they serve slightly different sailing lifestyles.
A notable visual distinction between the Eagle 44 and the Eagle 46 can be found in the cabin roof design. The Eagle 44 features a clean, low styled cabin roof making asmooth line to the cockpit, while the Eagle 46 is finished in mahogany combined with Permateek, giving it the same refined appearance as seen on the Eagle 38 and Eagle 54.
Where the Eagle 44 has the cockpit placed in the center of the yacht, being the widest section creating the largest cockpit in the Eagle range, the Eagle 46 has the cockpit placed slightly more aft giving the widest section to the cabin allowing for significantly more interior space.
In exterior looks the Eagle 46 follows the design of the Eagle 38 and Eagle 54, where the Eagle 44 is a league of it’s own.
Classic design meets modern technology
What truly connects the Eagle 44 and the Eagle 46 is the seamless blend of timeless design and advanced innovation. Both yachts are characterized by elegant overhangs, a low profile, and refined detailing that give them their unmistakable classic appearance. At the same time, beneath those traditional lines lies a modern construction, technology and carefully engineered sailing systems designed for performance and reliability.
An essential part of that modern approach is the strong focus on single handed sailing. Both models are designed so that all essential controls are positioned within easy reach of the helm, allowing the skipper to manage the yacht comfortably and safely without relying on a crew. This combination of classic aesthetics and contemporary functionality ensures that every Eagle yacht offers not only beauty, but also effortless handling and an exceptional sailing experience.
